The phrase "The American Dream" was first used by James Truslow Adams in his 1931 book The Epic of America in which he wrote that, "The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement."
Our Founding Fathers embodied the American Dream, and Thomas Jefferson included it in the Declaration of Independence when he wrote that, "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
